Chicken Corners

We did this as a night run, just as the sun was setting. Heading out we had great views, coming back it was dark and lit by our lights, which added a nice dimension to the trip. I made the entire run in 2WD (wheels aired down).

Fun trail, not very well marked. Huge holes around Chicken Corner is the only thing that made it pucker worthy.

What an enjoyable, scenic trail. There a few spots that could be considered technical, yet the grippy Moab slick rock allowed me to try the majority of obstacles in 2WD. There are some cool caves to explore off one of the side roads. The very end of the trail is a great spot to have lunch and take in the views. If you’re looking for an easier, stock friendly experience, this is the one.

Chicken Corners is one of Moab’s top trails and it’s definitely a great trail. The Chicken Corners waypoint wasn’t as pucker inducing as I expected, but I could see why it bothers some people. However, as TrailsOffroad said, it’s quite a wide corner so I wouldn’t have thought anything of it if I encountered it without knowing about it. Absolutely beautiful trail. We didn’t run to the walking version of chicken corners (last waypoint) due to fuel saving concerns. I’ll reevaluate the trail when I do that, but for now it’s a 4/5. Awesome trail worth doing, but Moab has so many trails that I’d bump above this one. We did this along with Lockhart basin to create a 2.5 day overland like route. Our first night was camping at catacomb rock and we started in the afternoon to make it work out time wise. There were plenty of spots around there. I didn’t note it in my Lockhart basin review, but if you’re doing our route, bring extra fuel just in case. We were lucky in that we didn’t need ours, but we were glad we had it.

Mid May Mid Week not much traffic. Deciding which track to take gives some extra excitement. There are many places where you just have to say "lets take this track" I found if it looks easy at the start it's the wrong choice. (-: Lots of fun and GREAT VIEWS! Many Many camp sites.

Ran this trail with my Bronco and one other on a Tuesday and there was some traffic but not too bad in the middle of the week. We pulled over for lunch at waypoint 12 to enjoy the overlook while everyone else ahead of us was over at the end of the trail. Once everyone had come back we headed to the end and enjoyed a good 30 minutes over there with no one anywhere near us. Good easy run.

The parts of the trail that were about 1/10-th of a mile wide with a zillion lines possible were a bit aggravating - while the OHVs can do any line, a solo traveler in a stock 4Runner TRD Off Road has to stop and walk and look for the lines on these super wide sections. I am glad I have steel skid plates and gas tank plate, as I definitely made good use of them a few times! Great scenic views!!! I camped out there several nights and had the place to myself the weeknight (not the weekend nights). It was so peaceful!

This was my 2nd time driving this trail. It was so amazing the first time about six weeks ago that I wanted to give it another go. I ran Hurrah Pass to get to the trail.

Views are amazing. I wouldn't call it a trail though. Basically a dirt/rocky road. I'd rate it a 1 or 2 as there were no obstacles. I'd have no issue bringing a higher clearance AWD up here

The temp was near 50 and the weather was quite nice for February but the trail was extremely busy for this time of year. We saw over 20 SxS machines and over 15 vehicles. The views at the end were worth the trip and of course we stopped at the catacomb caves.

Fun trail better views towards the end, depending on how you feel about heights would definitely recommend walking around the old chicken corners. Opens up to some great views. Camped in the camping spot near the river for three days two nights And ran some other trails in the area.

Long but a great trail. The wind tunnels off waypoint 6 are fantastic, the winding road along the cliff with views mesmerizing, and the “Chicken Corner” at the end quite the thrill (washed out so a little roller coaster and also intimidating as you round the corner and don’t fully see the width). The “human chicken corner” at the end was fun as well. You can walk around the ledge and get an even closer view of the river elbow. A long day in a Jeep/Truck but fantastic and fun trail! SXSs can get through this trail up in a jiffy!

An absolutely awesome trail. Plenty of scenic views with the right touch of obstacles. It can be easily driven in a high clearance 4x4. We stopped for lunch at Catacomb Rock and explored some of the tunnels, which the kids loved.

Great trail, slightly rough in spots. Amazing views in every direction. We camped overnight at the Catacomb Rocks which looked to have multiple spots available. Spent a little time exploring the caves, which feel a bit sketchy! Arrived at the end of the trail the next morning and climbed up to a memorial that someone had put in place. Highly recommend making the trail a 2-parter with some camping in the middle. Trail rating seems spot on, but I think the difficulty of Hurrah Pass (required to get to Chicken Corners) is more like a 3.

A mix of rocky road and sandy road. Took about 2 hours each way from Hurrah Pass via Jeep, taking it leisurely. Saw a handful of Jeeps and a lot of SxS vehicles (on a week day). Nothing technical, just bumpy on the rock sections of the trail.

Beautiful scenery that's relatively so close to Moab that you have to do it if you're in the area. Only saw maybe 5 SXS and 1 Jeep the whole time. Keep in mind the time to do Huzzah Pass in your planning, took us about 5.5 hours total with longer stops (pass. who gets motion sick easily). Stock Xterra Pro-4X did it no issue. Not challenging, but very bumpy and rocky. Expect to air down and take it slow if you don't have the suspension for it, or are very loaded down with stuff like I was.

Introduced my family to off-roading today. Trail is not challenging, but lots of fun for stock rigs. Ran this in a 2016 GMC Sierra HD with no mods. No issues with clearance and 4 hi was sufficient.

Berry nice and beautiful view

Long, enjoyable trail with epic views, bumpy and tedious at times, but some good open stretches. If you stop to enjoy it and take photos, count on 3 hours one way, less than 2 straight through from Hurrah Pass. Catacomb Rock is bigger than it looks, with lots to explore on the backside too, but also a nice shady spot for lunch.

We started this trail in the rain and finished at night. We ran it in our ram 1500 on 35s. The trail was bumpy but not unpleasant. The rain cleared up when we hit the trail head after hurrah pass, and the clouds broke just before we reached the corners. The scenery was amazing and none of us found the corners to be that intimidating, the full size truck had no problems negotiating the turn. Had the trail end to ourselves.

absolutely gorgeous from the top of hurrah pass all the way to to the top of chicken corners. This will definitely be a trail I will take others on when only staying in Moab for a couple days.

Easy cool trail. Could be a little harder after the rain. It’s definitely doable I’ve seen Subarus in there. 2WD is good to go. Great views and you can go further if you want in another trail.

Fun trail, but long. Left Moab around 930am, got back around 230pm, with a few stops along the way. Amazing views the whole way and quite a few challenges for this beginner 4 wheeler. Most tricky section for me was not at the end, but rather coming out of the wash around waypoint 4. Catacomb Rock was worth the stop for me. Kudos to the stock vehicles I saw near the top of Hurrah pass: an Outback, a Tiguan and an older Rav-4!

Epic trail! Gorgeous views the entire way.

Diverse offroad driving and brilliant views: Chicken Corners is one of the great moderate-difficulty trails near Moab. We ran it in a stock Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and had no issues at all. Even though there was quite a lot of traffic (especially ATVs and side-by-sides), letting other vehicles pass was never a concern. The namesake Chicken Corners aren't nearly as scary as one might believe – more than wide enough for a full-size vehicle and there's only a slight off-camber section. The 2-hour one-way estimate was quite accurate, including a few short breaks and a mostly relaxed pace.

A must if you have never done it! Beautiful views! Hurrah Pass is fun as well! We stopped a lot to take in the views, play at the Catacombs, enjoyed lunch on the trail. This was a full day run for us!

This is a really nice trail! You get a little bit of everything on this one, but most high-clearance vehicles will be just fine. The views along the trail as well as at the end are amazing! Take a lunch - slow down - and just relax on this trail! When you get to the end, take s short hike along the rim, and around the backside. Some more great and amazing views are there!

Really enjoyed this trail. Combination of mild rocks, mild off camber, a bit of skinny shelf road passing and a good amount of valley red sand fun. Iconic trail that gave us the added bonus of snowing on us as we made our way up the valley floor. Slipping up those shelf roads added to the “pucker factor” for sure! Loved it.

This trail was a great and scenic out and back route. We passed a couple stock rigs while we were out there.

Everyone should do this trail for their first time in Moab. Very scenic, not too difficult, and an overall fun ride.

Pretty fun simple trail nothing too crazy.

Such a fun trail ! Takes a while to get to the very end ( the actual Chicken Corner ) but well worth it, you’ll be overwhelmed by the endless amazing views along the way. The trail is actually very easy and can be easily done at 2WD for most of the way with the exception of only few easy rugged sections here and there. I wouldn’t recommend doing it if there’s snow on the trail because at many sections that trail goes very close to a drop off cliff at more than few sections. Once you get to the actual Chicken Corner, get out of your rig and just walk it. You’ll see that there’s plenty of space to make that ( scary ) section super safely, it’s just intimidating to look at, but in reality it’s super easy and actually safe. Once you clear that section keep going through the open area and go over the last rock, passed that you’ll get to the very end of the trail where you’ll take the best lunch break of your life ! The view out of this place is beyond unbelievable !

Fun, easy, scenic, I'm not sure if it should be rated a 3. I barely needed 4HI, never needed 4LO, 2020 TRD OR 4Runner, 33s, 3" lift. I really enjoyed the trail that being said, nothing sketchy and very relaxing. We had a stock 4Runner and I didn't worry about them needing more clearance. I know a few Subi's who could do this trail without any issues. Great views, follows the Colorado River, highly recommend Catacomb Spur!

Beautiful scenery, and a nice variety of terrain for the driver. A couple shelves that require intelligent tire placement with <33" tires. Some small water/mud holes that were mostly optional in November. Clearance/tire size, and suspension will determine speed - estimates given here are accurate for confident drivers in at least somewhat capable vehicles. Could easily take 50-100% longer if you're cautious or can't carry speed in sand/dirt/light rocks. Take your time and walk out and around the needles/'original chicken corner' at the end, the path widens way up as soon as you get around, with great views.

I took this trail to the catacombs, which passes through the most technical part of the trail in a 2022 Tacoma Off-Road dual cab short bed thats completely stock. Amazing trail!

We Hurrah Pass to Chicken corners. It's easy and scenic. It was one of our favorites that we did in Moab due to the scenery alone. We took our time and enjoyed an easy day.

Felt like the longest day ever off roading. Took hours to get to the end and hours to get back. It was very scenic, but no more so than other more fun trails. Our least favorite trail of the weekend.

There are a lot spots where the trail is hard to follow/find due to recent rains and erosion, having a good navigation app is a must. Coming back out I lost the trail and went the wrong way and had fun turning around. Some sections are really slow going because it is so washed out and rocky. The obstacle just past Jackson Hole trail is a little worse for wear and the trail direction on where to go when you come up is almost non-existent. As of today when you come up that obstacle(Small Shelf) veer right, do not go towards the fence. You will see tracks on the rocks where people drive. The "Chicken Corners" section is cool through the "gatekeeper" and not as scary as people make it out to be to the end. Be sure to check out Catacomb Rocks while you are out here, it is worth it. Great views on the whole trail and this one is worth checking out if you have a whole day. We started in town around 8 and got back around 4:30 after running this and Hurrah Pass.

We ran this a while back (in May). Loved the trail. Loved the views, but this is a long out and back and 2 hours is not even close. I agree with the review that said it’s 3 hours out and dang near 3 back. Please update this because it’s misleading. If you’re in a side by side going balls out maybe but a lifted 4x4 on 35s ain’t gonna do this out and back in 2

This trail rocks. A great introduction in Moab. The shelf road at the beginning has sick views. There's also great camping to be found.

The variety of terrain, driving options and stunning views made this an excellent trail. Getting there via Hurrah was a bit of a snoozer but Chicken Corners was great. There really aren't any "Chicken Corners" so don't get too excited about the hype. Take the time to rip around the sand traps, climb up/down the optional obstacles and enjoy a cold one at the turnaround spot where the view is fantastic.

This trail did not live up to the hype for me. The narrow shelf road that likely gives the trail it's name makes up a very small section of the trail. Hurrah pass was more of my cup of tea. There are a lot of alternate paths and more challenging lines so if you are in a stock vehicle, be careful of the path you take. A good portion of the trail is also rutted and rocky so you'll have to go slower. The final crest to the end of the trail is probably to most challening part in my opinion. The view at the end of the trail was also underwhelming, however, we did not go on the hiking path at the end of the trail. I think you get a better view across the river at the Louise and Thelma look out.

Chicken Corners is a pretty easy trail and almost any vehicle with some decent clearance can do the whole thing. What is lacks in difficulty, it MORE than makes up with on scenery as the trail offers some incredible views. This should be a bucket list trail for anyone that loves Moab.

May be my favorite trail ever?? Awesome views the entire way. Not too tough but lots of interesting terrain. I ran 4 low most of the way in my 4runner (3 inch lift). A 3 rating seems right and and a 2 rating for the pass seems correct too. I would probably not recommend either trail for a standard AWD SUV as they there are a few tough spots. We ran it out and back from town in 6.5 hours and stopped at Catacomb Rock-recommended.

Very fun trail that, at times, felt like a big playground. Some lines were slightly challenging while others were more "rolling" and allowed you to go a little faster which was fun. I camped near the end of this trail and I must say, it was one of the best campsites I've ever had (and I'm from CO). No noise, no people, no wind (thankfully as it was very exposed) and no light pollution! This area makes for killer sunsets.

2wd all day long! Beautiful scenery, worth the trip.

Went on a Friday, so it was pretty busy. Pretty rough road for a lot of 4 Runners and larger SUVs/ trucks. They were having a slow go. Give yourself more time if you’re in one of those. Side by side got beat up running all out on some sections, but for the most part nothing insanely technical. Views at the end were amazing. Great trail, give yourself a whole day for this one.

Chicken Corners, and out to where you can view the plateau where Thelma and Louse was filmed. There's a little hike out around the rim if you're more adventurous. In reality as the driver I didn't feel any discomfort driving out around the corners, felt there was plenty of room. Coming back it was a little more clear as to how close it actually is...but still not too bad.

It takes a long time to get to this trail and the views aren't generally better than the other side of the river. There were lots of motorcycles and side-by-sides on the trail, so if you are in a vehicle, be prepared to pull to the side and let them pass a lot.

2 hours?!? It took me 3 hours one way but I’m including Hurrah Pass as well. Maybe if I was in a side by side and balls to the wall, no stops, then 2 hours. Very jarring road. The little path at the end was cool, I’m glad I didn’t stop at any of the POIs because it would have been 8 hours.

I truly enjoyed this trail. Fun variety of terrain. Fairly straightforward for the most part. Options for more technical obstacles. Great introductory trail for the area. Epic views the whole way. Didn’t see anyone else out there. Catacomb rock is really fun to explore.

As close to a perfect trail as I've seen - stunning views, and just enough technical stuff to keep things interesting without being too taxing. Only saw two other folks running the trail, and it was nice to have it to myself otherwise. I didn't have a passenger, so may not have gotten the full chicken effect, from the drivers side I didn't feel like I was ever getting too close to the cliff edges *shrug*

My girl and I ran hurrah pass to chicken corner on a beautiful winter day. The day before it rained several inches we only saw 1 rig the entire day. We went to the end and hiked around chicken corner and down into the goose neck. We both took turns driving this trail and its out of this world with amazing sights on every turn !!

Posting this a while later, but this trail is a favorite, and spending the night means you'll be one of the few out there after everyone who's rented an ATV/Jeep goes back to their hotels. My brother ended up bringing along a drone which really does the drops justice.

Campsite at waypoint 11 is awesome! 270 degree views of the canyons and your right off the cliff over the Colorado River. If you get this campsite you won't regret. One downside is there is alot of trail traffic, folks rent side by sides and do out and back trips throughout the day.

Leading up to WP3 is definitely a Moderate rating. From WP3 on the trail is fairly easy. The Corners are brief and we didn't find them intimidating but the views are awesome. Take it slow around blind curves but there are plenty of places to pass. Trail wasn't too crowded on a Sunday.

Came out after a Few Monsoon Rains so there was Water and the Washes certainly were Changed from a Week ago, Trail was in great shape considering the Rain a Few days ago. This is a Easy Extremely beautiful Trail.

Simply iconic. I have been on this trail several times and it never gets boring. What was different this trip versus others was that I was running this trail in a stock JL Rubicon versus my normal JK on 35s and a 2.5" lift. I definitely noticed the ledges a bit more on this trail in a stock vehicle, but nothing too bad.

Ran Chicken Corners out to Lockhart Basin during the wind advisory for San Juan county. This is still one of my favorites.

Easy trail with great views of the Colorado River, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. I don't know that it is a 3 rating wise, this was pretty easy with a lot of drive arounds for stock vehicles. The chicken corners were pretty tame by shelf road standards. I know that is subjective and everyone has different limits. For us, no one got sideways at all on this one. Started early and had it mostly to ourselves. Traffic really picked up around lunch time and got heavier on the way out.

First time on Chicken Corners. A bit crowded, but it was a weekend after all. The scenery was fantastic! Definitely a must-do in Moab.

This is a great trail if you have never been in the area, or if you are newer to offroading. It has amazing scenery and has a few technical obstacles. We saw a stock Jeep Patriot at the end for reference, so a stock 4wd vehicle will have no issues. An AWD vehicle with an experienced driver should be able to complete this trail. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is it sees a lot of traffic. Go early or go on a weekday to have a more remote experience.

Still a great trail after running this about 10 times. Still always seeing and finding new things after running the trail so many times. I am adding one more waypoint to this trail, the Natural Bridge we found at about 6 miles in.

Easy trail but amazing scenery the entire way, this one has been on the list for awhile and although it took me 2 days, glad to have bagged it. Check it out!

Had a one night stand at waypoint 6 after a long drive from Colorado. Fantastic trail with great views. Highly recommended.

This trail is amazing. Let me tell you. As I explore more and more of Moab and Utah, it starts to fall a bit on the list for a few reasons. The amount of usage it gets, the amount of new bootleg off-trail tracks, and the amount of trash. If you haven't done this trail, definitely go do it. I would recommend going on a weekday as it can be overrun with other adventure seekers. And as usual... pack it in - pack it out, and stay the trail!

We ran this trail along with Hurrah Pass and Lockhart Basin. Always such a great trail to take in the scenery. Did notice more trail widening and newly formed side trails, it’s important we all stay on the trail and pick up any litter.

I took my 2016 Jeep Renegade TH along this trail and absolutely loved it. Gorgeous views and lots of fun obstacles for a baby Jeep owner like myself. Highly recommended.

Great river views and a fun drive. Lots of traffic on the trail as it's a recommended trail from UTV rental companies.

Had no problem going through and back with a full size ( some areas i wondered if i would have made some of those turns ( waypoints 2 and 12 ). Totally worth the drive

On my way to the Overland Expo, I wanted to hit a quick trail that I could camp on. Chicken Corners offers great scenery with easy wheeling so I chose this trail for my evening layover. This is one of my favorites for whatever reason, perhaps due to high scenery without a big effort getting there.
